Customizing Ubuntu

Terminal Commands

M1ª Parta – Some basic commands in Ubuntu terminal with file and folder manipulation, among others.

  • CD – Open folders
  • help – Help content. Show help for a command
  • ls – Shows list of files and folders in a current directory
  • grep – Filters values in searches.
  • du – Shows the size of a folder
  • ps – View ps -aux processes
  • rm – Remove files or folders
  • find – Find files or folders
  • apt – Install and update programs via the terminal
  • sudo – Working with user (create)

More commands for manipulating files

  • cat – Read the contents of a file
  • tac – Reads the contents of a file from the last line
  • head – Reads the contents of a file from the first line with a limit of 10 lines. head -n (where n defines the number of lines)
  • tail – Reads the contents of a file from the last line with a limit of 10 lines. tail -n (where n defines the number of lines)
  • luck – Changes the order to ascending or descending
  • uniq – Reads a file but disregards duplicate lines. uniq -c show which lines are duplicated
  • toilet – Counts Lines, Words and Characters in a text
