Lugano Jazz Festival 2008 with Marcus Miller

Marcus Miller (New York, June 14, 1959) is a jazz composer and musician, best known as a bassist, who has played with several musicians, including Miles Davis and David Sanborn.

Miller officially studied clarinet as well as bass clarinet, keyboard, saxophone, and guitar, in addition to being a vocalist.

His influences are from some previous generation bass players, such as Keni Burke, and in particular, jaco pastorius (who was born just 8 years before Miller, in 1951).

Early in his career, Miller was accused of imitating Pastorius' style too much, undeniably an influence that was, and still is, enormous.

Miller has an extensive discography, and travels frequently to Europe and Japan as an accompanying musician or leader.
