The IP address, in general, is an identification of a device (computer, printer, etc.) on a local or public network. Each computer on the internet has a unique IP (Internet Protocol), which is the medium that machines use to communicate on the Internet.
All IPs are divided into Classes:
- Class A - 1 to 126 (ex: from 1.0.0.0 to 126.255.255.255)
- Class B - 128 to 191
- Class C - 192 to 223
- Class D - 224 to 239
- Class E - 240 to 255
See a great video explaining the classes of IP addresses, worth seeing.
